Yooralla has been working with Active Property Services for a number of years and have recently moved all Secretary owned Community Residential Units to Active for property management and support. We are now in the process of moving Yooralla owned properties and hope to have all properties, including Ministry of Housing, under the management of Active before the end of the 2008/09 financial year. Active provide an extremely valuable service to residents and to Yooralla staff. Maintenance is attended to in a timely manner and much time is saved by direct support staff now they do not have to chase contractors or worry about maintenance issues. Active have provided thorough documentation and information to residents, families and financial administrators. Regular reports are sent to Yooralla and we meet on a bi-monthly basis to discuss and issues that may arise. Active staff are keen to hear about how things may be improved and we have a very strong working relationship.

For six years Active Property Management Services has managed three residential units in the small township of Dalyston on behalf of the Bass Coast Shire Council. Prior to Council entering into a Management Agreement with Active, these three units had been deteriorating and were no longer in a state where Council could responsibly allow them to be occupied. The considerable funds required to bring them up to scratch were simply not available in the budget of a small rural Council with many competing demands for funding. Since taking over management of the units, Active has turned the situation around. The units are no longer a deteriorating embarrassment; they are now pleasant and well maintained homes to three households. These three households are also connected to the Dalyston community and the wider world.

I have been in my property for 10 years and feel a major achievement is becoming an independent person. I have a mental illness as well as having struggled, and to some degree still struggle with an addiction problem, I feel that through the stable accommodation that Active has provided me that I am managing this. My other achievement is I have been able to get clean and sober. I have never had permanent accommodation before this and lived on the streets and in boarding homes, so with Active finding me stable accommodation means the world to me - it’s amazing! My life has changed for the better and the fact that I pay cheap rent is a bonus. Through Active’s continued strong support, it has made me feel much happier in life.

My overall experience with Active has been a very positive one. I have felt extremely supported most of the time however only sometimes a little frustrated. I have been living in my property since mid-June 2000; Me and my partner were rescued so to speak as we were homeless for approximately 5 years. I am very happy living in the Footscray area and I feel very settled and hopes that with Active’s support, understanding, reasonable approach and leniency, we can stay in our property for a long time. Because of Active I feel an enormous sense of stability and security which is very important to me. Active has been, for me personally, so understanding; the rent was not taken from the exact date at move in to the property to fall in line with Centrelink payments; this is an example of where leniency was taken into account and me and my partner are ever so grateful. Active are much more than a property manager, they’re not interested in just receiving the rent, they care about their tenants and that a great achievement for me after being placed in this accommodation was that new social skills were learnt in paying rent on time. I had been in arrears on the odd occasion but this was ironed out. In the beginning I was very involved with the Tenant Reference Group, but circumstances halted that commitment. It is something I wish to remedy and intends to attend meetings more frequently as I feel very strongly about the TRG.

I enjoy living at my property of which I have occupied for a period of 10 years and because of Active I feel a responsibility to keep it clean, tidy and to look after my belongings. I take pride in my actions and in doing the right thing and therefore do not lean on Active too much - I know the right time to get in touch with them; when something breaks down. My achievements are that I now feel aware of things around me. Active’s support has been very good”. Active let you do what you want within reason & I am pleased that I am allowed to make the place look the way I want and I am allowed to have a dog. In my previous accommodation, I was not allowed to have a dog so this means a great deal. Active’s support has been terrific and they are always there.

I have been living in my current property in Ascot Vale for 5 years and before this time in another property that Active was involved with for 5 years; a total of 10 years. My experience with Active over this time has been excellent. I have settled into my accommodation very nicely and having the security is a wonderful safe feeling. I take pride in my backyard which is great for my kids of which I have 2. Even though Active has been a terrific support for me, I do not lean on them or rely on them heavily however strongly and positively say they are always around when you need them.

I have been with Active for more than 16 years and my experience with Active has been very very good over this time. Active’s support has been, and continues to be, of such high quality and they are always there in time of need. Whenever maintenance is required it is done in an exceptional timeframe. They are so efficient. There was a circumstance that occurred in that the house caught on fire - I was moved out within 24 hours and moved into an emergency house and then a unit; the house was fixed in just over a year, the situation was handled so well, very efficiently and professionally. I am happy to say that my achievements have to be able to do my own garden, planting palms and succulents, and this progress has made me very proud.
